As a favor, I am helping a Korean friend translate these old documents. They were written in the early 1900s. I am confident I correctly re-typed the English for her so she can translate it into Korean, however there are two words in two different letters that I can't make out. I have my own ideas, however, I want to see what you guys think. I have circled the words in blue

Here is letter #1:

Here is letter #2:

First word I'm not sure about (possibly "prefer" from the context), but I would say the second word is "stomach".

I propose "propose" for the first one.

Compared with other examples in the sample, the middle letter is clearly a "p."
The first "o" does look like an "e" but maybe because the writer overwrote something else it came out awkwardly.

The second looks like "Samuael". Look at the context. It is a person's name. Yes, the first must be "prefer".

Looking at the context, I agree that it should be prefer and stomach.

It could not be "stomach". "Stomach and he had bowel problems?" no

It could be, as it's page 2 (or 3 Wink ) of the letter.

But its the top of page 2 (or maybe thats a 3) so I take it to be midsentence.
I'd say no question it reads "stomach."
