I have no idea. And probably no one else does either.

Please don't listen to recruiters.

Jesus where are you hearing these things? At Geckos? Or from a vile and venemous Korean male? No doubt the worst thing you can do is go on this message board and start rumours without providing and clarifying your sources. Yes it IS starting rumours.

I think that the absence of feedback is more deafening than anything. I've also heard directly from recruiters that not a damn thing has changed.

I suppose if you get enough expats nervously ringing their hands together, just about any story or rumor can be expected to surface.

The moderator of the EFL-law forum mentioned recently that 40 people were busted in Pusan for working illegally. I BELIEVE he/she is a lawyer, in regular touch with Immigration offices, and is somewhat in the know about arrests of illegals. You might want to check the EFL-law forum for more info.

The crack down in Busan is true.Immigration are on a full campaign down here and I know of several teachers who have been caught.Immigration is also visiting recruiters offices and warning them about advertising part time jobs.

In busan immigration usually do a sweep once a year anyway but this time it is definitely more serious.

Sounds more like a chicken little post because on SOME websites part time job advertising seems hotter than ever, especially this week. In fact I was highly disappointed because I'm only looking for full time but found only a few in comparison.

you wouldn't happen to be part of the yah-lets-kick-out-more-foreigners crowd would you?

i'm not starting rumours. i have heard from several different people, not at geek-os (sic), but from other people. my friend knew someone who got busted in the buncheon area, but said apparently a bunch more had been busted.

i've had two recruiters tell me about the sbs so that's why i wondered about that one. sorry to cause any problems. why can't they just be honest about the positions and say "i wasn't the only recruiter and you weren't the only teacher, sorry the better person got the job" or "you sucked in the interview" or "they were looking for a blonde" or whatever the truth is, instead of making up crap??? Mad

Recruiters will tell you things like this to try to knock you into accepting one of their crappier jobs.

Hold fast, and remind them that there are still several jobs in the public school sector that aren't even being filled.

Just curious, but of the teachers that you know personally that have been caught, were they of the private tutor-type or were they cracking down on schools who were employing illegals?

As for the Busan recruiter thing, it's either the usual 'I heard from a friend, who heard from, blah/blah', or then the recruiters must have some big brass balls, as I know two Busan recruiters that peddle privates and they are still running ads, just as much as they ever did. You can check out the Busan Koreabridge FT/PT ads for proof of that.

And even if this was something more than just the product of chinese whispers in the teacher community down there, it certainly is not happening in Seoul, based on the way the PT gigs are being cranked out over at WorknPlay.

Sorry to be a partypooper, but I guess that I just need to hear a lot more than the average 'I heard about this' 2nd hand grapevine stuff, to counter some of the simple truths that we are seeing elsewhere that still show a continuing trend of the status quo.

They're busting illegals. It's hardly a reason for any of us the get up in arms about.
