they're not at an interview, they're just finding out information. If I was representing my firm at a job fair and one of the attendees was wearing a suit, I'd think they were pretty weird.
Actually I remember someone from British Aerospace coming to my uni to recruit summer interns- he was horrified when most of the applicants wore suits, didn't think it was approriate at all. |
Yeah, I was also surprised at all the posters who dissed the Koreans' attire. Nobody get's hired at an overseas jobs fair (at least they shouldn't), and the fair's participants aren't interviewing anyone. As for that ONE guy in the photo who's dressed for business, he may be on his lunch break from his office job, who knows. If anyone needs to be overly concerned with what they're wearing, it's the fair's participants. (btw, that's not really the bobster sitting there.... It's not. He's not Australian, right?)
And RR, I'm with Butterfly -- this one wasn't up to your usual... um... standards, I think. Those facial expressions are as unremarkable as any you might find anywhere in Korea -- in church, at a wedding, the airport, the subway ride home. |

The question is, RR, how much are you getting paid to post links to every other Chosun/Yonhap/Etc. news article you find?
5 cents per hit? |

What to Wear
Generally, the appropriate attire for career fair attendees is slightly more relaxed than what you'd wear to an actual job interview. In most cases, "business casual" is the norm. If you're unsure of the dress code (particularly for off-campus events), it would be wise to err on the overdressed side-you'll make a better impression if you appear professional. Think of it as a dress rehearsal for your real interviews!

"What Should I Wear to the Job Fair?"
Men: Dress as you would for a job interview. A shirt and tie is very appropriate, and a sport coat or suit is even better -- especially if you are in a business or professional field.
Women: Dress as you would for an interview. A blouse and skirt or dress slacks are appropriate, and a business suit is even better -- especially if you are in a business or professional field.

Career Fairs
For career fairs, business dress is best if you are prospecting for job leads. If you are looking for internship leads, semi-casual or casual attire is suitable.

What to Wear - Dress for Success!
Your first impression is very important, you should be dressed for an interview, please wear business attire. For example:
Men: Your best suit, tie and shoes.
Women: Your best jacket with matching pants or skirt and shoes.

Dress neatly.
A job fair is like a series of mini-interviews, with recruiters forming impressions of the people they meet. You might not need to wear a suit, but clothes that are too casual could be a strike against you.

Have to agree with Butterfly - this one was kinda weak.
BTW. Keep on posting links to articles. I enjoy reading them. And besides, when people get tired of beating up on Derrek or DW or others they always seem to have you to pick on. Therefore, you do provide a valuable service for others. |

| The women are dressed a little casually. There's middle ground between what you'd wear on the weekend, and what you'd wear to an interview. What you'd wear to a job fair should probably be in that middle ground. Trying to look interested might be a good thing too. |

Personally, I think that this thread was a waste of time. Come on who really cares what Korean people wear to job fairs? Aren't there more important issues to talk about, Mr. Real Reality? How about the 16 year old girl who was burned on her abdomen and poked in her vagina and anus with "writing utensils" by her classmates? School yard bullying seems to be an issue worth discussing about not what people wear to job fairs!!!

After a steady diet of crap, sometimes it's nice to take a look at the lighter somewhat sillier side of things. And RR did indeed post the article about the highschool girls. I used it in a discussion with my own daughter last night - Thanks RR. |

(Is this how it's done, RR? I'm new at this...)
Seoul City's Job Fair Fails to Help Aspirants
"The first two-day offline job fair of foreign businesses in Korea organized by both Seoul City and the Korea Foreign Company Association (FORCA) has once again disappointed many young jobseekers with its lack of preparation...
most companies did not actually provide a specific number of job openings...
"It is basically impossible to decide whether to hire someone here just with on-the-spot job interviews. This kind of event really only advertises participating companies."
Companies such as Walmart Korea refused to conduct simple job interviews with a large number of applicants, asking them to just submit their resumes and cover letters, which went directly into a cardboard box nearby....
Some booths, operated jointly by a few companies offering overseas internship programs, were bustling with young people who wanted the chance to work and study overseas. However, those companies required around 1.5 million won of commission from each applicant while selling flight tickets and months-long mandatory foreign language courses additionally. $$$$
"Its so disappointing. Some companies told me to just turn in my resume and said they will have job openings sometime in the future. Whats the point of holding this kind of job fair? Kim Tae-hyung, 31, a jobseeker said. |

JongnoGuru,
You have way too much boldness. You might scare some of the more sensitive patrons of the cafe.
You seem to be smilin' too much.
You did not include the picture.

That's it???? Christ you need some new material man; there are, as far as I can see only two men in the picture, both of them looking at different stands. There are actually only two people smiling, two women are frowning also. |
And, you paid how much? |
I paid enough, thank you. |
