I've been here 2 months, and dont feel healthy at all. I am sure that I have lost at least 10 lbs from the change of diet. I was 165lbs before I came...6ft tall. Is there a decent website on what food I can eat here to bulk up? I want to join a gym as well, as I have worked out most of my life. I feel like my whole body is shriveling. I have a really high metabolism. Back home I was eating at least 3 eggs, toast, oatmeal, cereal, 2 sandwiches a day full of meat, 2 protein shakes, steak, baked potato, veggies, 1/2 gallon of milk every day....plus a lot more food, just to maintain my body weight. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to fix this? I went to the GNC in Bundang, which SUCKS! They hardly have any supplements. I'm going to buy a huge tub of protein mix from my army friend this weekend to help hopefully

Well, I can tell you about the bad habits that make me GAIN weight:

1. Don't eat breakfast. If you miss breakfast, your body's metabolism will not start to burn food until lunch.

2. Each chocolate and drink coffee. The caffeine and other ingredients will slow your metabolism. Just be sure to brush your teeth after, because all of the bottled water here ain't got no flouride.

3. Eat after 8pm, when your metabolism has slowed. This will make you store more weight overnight.

4. Don't exercise... especially in the morning. Don't walk too much, either. Be a lazy-butt and pay for cabs.

5. Make a habit of eating a chocolate or sugar snack with your lunch.

6. Sit on your butt and type on Dave's all night. Guarenteed to pack on the pounds.

I do all of those things that Derrek mentioned (except skipping breakfast, cause I'd die) and still cant seem to gain weight. I find that I am able to put on a few pounds if I can go stay with mom for a month and spend most of that time eating protein, dairy and snacks and watch too much tv. Then and only then do I have success in putting on some kind of padding. Living in Korea tends to be a far too active life for those who want to try to put on weight. I havent had any success. My suggestion: go live with mom. Hehe Very Happy
(which basically translates as: After all you've done, there's really no way, so just try to stay healthy)

Jesus there is some bad advice in this thread...

If you're 6 feet 150lbs forget about eating chocolate, skipping breakfast and sitting on your ass. All you'll end up with is an E.T body (waif thin with a 3rd trimester gut).

Forget the protein suppliments. IMO all they do is bloat you and stifle your appetite. I suggest you hit Costco, Hannam Supermarket, etc and stock up on chicken, fish, turkey, etc. to increase your protein consumption...also try to eat a large meal before bed after a hard workout too.

I recommend HEAVY lifting. A couple sets of 6-8 reps finishing with one set of 2-5 to failure...when you're working chest make sure to incorporate bench (plates and dumbbells) instead of sticking with machines. Same goes for legs. Heavy Squats and flat bench are proven to be the two primary exercises to increase testosterone production thus increasing overall muscle mass.

If you wanna gain weight do it properly.

Squat Toilet is right. Lift weights. Since the biggest muscles in your body are in your legs, do squats or leglifting. You'll be amazed, but you can gain at least 5 kilos in a month.

Weights turn fat into muscle. Muscle is heavier.

About eating more, it depends on your age. All those gimmicks out there don't help. And don't think they'll help you, as many gimmick foods might contain high cholesterol.

Um, how can you turn fat into muscle?!

Weight dont turn fat into muscle. Thats totally imposible. Weight training builds muscle, which in turn elevates your metabolism and leads to fat loss. When combined with cardio, it leads to fat loss. Make sure you dont do too much cardio, as it leads to muscle loss. The best way to do cardio is to do short sessions (between 20-30 minutes) of high intensity cardio. Do not run for an hour or bike for an hour as that will lead to your body metabolizing muscle along with fat. The way I do it is to run hard for 5 minutes (on the running machine I go from 10km/h and every minute I increase by 1 km/h) then I immediately get off and get on a bike and cycle at an easy pace for 5 minutes. Then I get back on the running machine and do 5 minutes, starting at 11 km/h this time going up to 15 km/h. After 5 minutes its back on the bike. Finally, I do the running machine for 5 minutes, starting at 12km/h and going up by 1 km/h per minute to 16 km/h, and finally on the bike for 5 minutes. This kind of cardio is high intensity, it gets your heart rate and core body temperature up for a long time afterwards, and unlike low intensity jogging, it doesnt lead to muscle catabolism. ever see how marathon runners and joggers look? Pretty sickly to me. Compare them with sprinters who do a lot of high intensity training instead of the ultra boring low intensity crap. If I had to endure 30 minutes of running in place Id kill myself.

Diet is crucial. Eat high calorie complex carbohydrates, avoid simple sugars. Eat plenty of fruit. I love bananas. Rich in potassium, high in calories. Get a lot of protein from food and supplements. Avoid the idiotic Atkins crap. You will never bulk up properly without eating a lot of carbs. GOOD carbs is the key.
