In the past few days I've noticed most of my boy students have picked up the word "hur". Maybe they used it all along and I never noticed it before, but now they do it all the time and it's driving me crazy.

What does mean?? From what I gather it's pretty much the equivalent of this -.-; emoticon. The sweaty one. I don't understand what the sweat means either.

Anybody know what it means or have students that do this? Is this a new thing?

It's pretty common and not new; it's used only by kids and what it means...essentially, it means you're surprised by something.

The -_-' icon more means you're embarassed. It's taken from anime references.

I've also heard . I'm pretty sure that there are regional dialects for something like this.

It means that you find something surprising and funny and stupid.

I've heard it used mostly by teenage girls.

The way they say it, I thought it might be similar to "ssullung" --- not real funny, just like a Bush joke that isn't really a joke. Example: middle school girl asks "You cut your hair?" I say, "No, someone else did."

"hul"
