|
|
Gepik was wanting to hear back from all the schools by June 20th regarding teachers renewing. Has anyone heard what the renewal number is?
I did not renew.

Ai ai ai aissshhhhh.
I decided that since my school wants me to stay in our village and refused to let me move to another apartment, I wouldn't renew.
HOWEVER, I am no longer eligible for 2 weeks of home-leave, and I'm on contract with them until the end of August. I have 6 days of vacation time left.
I don't have another job right now, but I'm very anxious to get home during August because both my sister and my ageing grandfather will be in town, and if I try to get home in September, I'll miss them. I haven't seen either for a year (the longest separation by far) so you can see why I'm keen.
I've made a request for some unpaid leave so they can let me off my contract early. My co-teacher is a real "by-the-books" kind of guy, and he said that IF we follow the contract, he'll try to accomodate me.
The contract doesn't specifically state under what conditions an employee may take unpaid leave, aside from prolonged illness. It does say that "any matter not explicitly stated in the contract" can be arranged by the Employer, taking the Employee into consideration.
I just mentioned this to him, and he said "In that case, it will be easy." My heart leaps up! Keep your fingers crossed, guys! |

P.S. If I leave the contract 2 or 3 weeks early, I forfeit my severance pay and my airfare home, so that's really not an option. Or is it? |

My school thinks I'm renewing. I've had to run around getting all sorts of documents and what not. Return airfare has been booked. Did my medical exam yesterday.
Still no sign of a contract, though. I'm expecting an upgrade from level 2 to level 1 pay. If they don't offer it, which is possible because my school is stingy, I'll be forced to walk. |

Good luck with getting your raise Manly. I have the new contract, and it is quite specific regarding top level teachers..........NO RAISE. I think the lower levels will get a raise.

Oh bother. My co-teacher found the clause that says they will only pay my airfare if I leave within 10 days of the end of my contract. He also phoned GEPIK and was told that if I don't work until the end of August, my pension may be affected.
Just letting you know in case you're going through something similar, or have overcome such obstacles. |

Pension should not be affected. Even if you leave 6 months into a contract you can get the pension.
You should be able to leave by the 22'nd, 23'rd of August at the latest..with your vacation time....and technically that is within ten days of the end of the contract.
Hopefully they wont split hairs about it. Other people have asked for and been allowed to leave early without being raked over the coals either. |
