I think you were startled because you thought it was an argument. I simply asked you to consider a point of view if you go and reread the post. Your paraphrase does not actually do its job. I agree with you in fact that globalisation means we need to understand geography more but at the same time, one by-product of the globalisation of culture is that knowledge of geography becomes pointless.
I'm not sure anyone on this thread has yet argued for the necessity of a deeper understanding of geography. Personally, I wouldn't argue for geography. If I was going to argue, I'd do so for ethnography/ethnology because I think it aims for understanding by default. I feel slightly worried if anyone suggests that simply knowing the capital of Italy is Rome gives us somehow better "understanding" |

| Well yes you're right. But how far do the Urals extend south? Certainly gets a bit difficult when you hit the Black Sea so a bit of grace would season your answer a bit. That's why Turkey was referred to as Asia Minor though now it is set on attempting to join the EU... not the AU. |
Bit of grace? Sorry if I sounded hostile, I don't know how far the Urals extend... hence the "I think" part of my post. |

Urals are mountains? I thought that was a bathroom fixture.
