These are the doctors with the big pot bellies who smoke a pack a day, right? Alcohol is poison, plain and simple. No reputable doctor would recommend it. Some might say "it's safe in moderation", which means "it's poison but your body is robust enough to detoxify itself". Having a drink every single day as part of a daily routine is an alcohol addiction.

Yup them big pot bellies at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms even agree that there are benefits to moderate consumption of wine and beer.

By "corporate people" you mean people with jobs? Only hippies believe in "corporate people" as some kind of different species with fundamentally different lives as the rest of us. People with jobs are humans, too, they're our parents, friends, siblings. Most of them aren't alcoholics.

Yup you've got me. I've got long hair I'm a hippy. Rolling Eyes Coroprate people mean people in directorships, high flying lawyers accounts etc.

But feel free to keep digging yourself into a hole. it's amusing to watch.

Somewhat sad to be hungover once in a while? What's sad is you, old boy; and I can see no possible need for any further explanation.

So you have consulted the opinions of several reputable doctors on this have you?

Here's one unbiased opinion for you:

http://www.aces.edu/dept/extcomm/newspaper/jan22a03.html

I'm tempted to say your narrow, demonizing view on alcohol indicates you're an idiot; but it's simply the result of your ignorance (and what appears to be a narrow mind).

And for the record, I wasn't drunk when the little girl assumed I was. I always stagger into my kindergarden class because, well... it's kindergarden. In addition, I did have a headache. However, if I were to go to class with a hangover - which isn't totally out of the realm of possibility - I would be feeling pain and self-hatred, but nothing akin to sadness.

My take on all this is that it's better to show up to class drunk than hungover. When hungover, one really cannot be bothered and classes suck balls. When drunk, at least there's some semblance of happiness and 'getting into it' a bit. I know that kids' education improved due to my being mildly intoxicated once, but if I'm hungover and feel like a flaming sack of *beep*, all I want to do is be in bed! Whether you're as sober as a judge or as drunk as a lord, quality of class is the criteria for judgement. If you think "well it's impossible to do a good class with alcohol in your system" some people have different tolerence levels and it may not be true for others even if it is for you.

What are you, fifteen? Or are you just one of those hip older guys?

What stimulus deprived chimpanzee would take the time to think out a reply to anything you write anyway?

So anyone who offers a different or liberal persepctive about alcohol is an alcoholic in your opinion are they? I think that idea in your head must be in solitary confinement.

Its like my dear old dad said, "the day I stop drinking at work is the day I turn in my badge and gun."
Just kidding...
Anyway, I think the real issue is the age of your students. I teach kindie and primary and can't afford a lapse in reaction time or judgement (or someone ends up hurt and crying from a fist fight). If I were teaching adults who don't have the desire to jump off tables or throw siscors (or exacto knives) at each other, I would afford myself A glass of wine with lunch.

I couldn't say that Babtangee has any sort of "drinking problem" based on what he's said here, and I also believe based on studies I've read (solely concerning red wine) that having a drink every day is beneficial (not just "tolerable") for the body.

However, his posts here in response to Homer's have been mildly amusing.

"Why would I bother thinking up a reply to you?"

(several posts later)
"Who even listens to you?"

(several posts later)
"Only a chimp would bother responding to you."

(several posts later)
....

Steady on now, Babtangee. Don't go getting all liquored up and track me down.

Should you do, however, just give me a day to restock. Jameson's?

There should be no alcohol in school and teachers should not drink outside of the school if they are going to be in charge of classes after they come back.

Teachers should also be responsible enough not to drink so much through the course of an evening that they are either horribly hungover or still reeking of alcohol. It is that kind of thing that ruins the reputation of the teachers who do work hard and are professional in their manner and approach to teaching.

There is drinking a few beers at home, or a glass or three of wine, but when it gets to 2am and you are deciding whether or not to go the norae bang, whilst forgetting that you have class at 8.45am, then, in my opinion, you are a highly un-professional teacher and shouldn't be allowed in a classroom.

As long as you're not a violent or angry drunk I don't really see a problem with it. Still, I'd rather do it after school in the staff room or in the male teachers' tent at school camp. Having a conversation with a bunch of kids at school camp after six or seven Hite's seemed to go swimmingly, so perhaps in the classroom wouldn't be so bad, either.

If it's before 11.30pm and I've already had enough, I'd better stay in the hof and keep drinking for a while or I'll be bound to run into a bunch of my students while stumbling home drunk.

Babtangee, your avatar reminds me of Stripe from Gremlins. God, that animal is downright putrid, and I love dogs.

I went to class once hungover, but I didn't think I was that bad off. Bought the kiddies french fries from the McDonald's across the street, and halfway through my bag of fries, they came right back up again. The kids thought it was great- they all wanted to check-out the trashcan. Shocked The assistant director seemed pretty impressed, too Shocked Shocked Shocked I was mortified, and never drank that much again the night before work.
