Last time I got an E-2, I did not have to submit a sealed official transcript from my university. Now I notice that many schools or recruiters are asking for it. So I was wondering if immigration has altered their visa requirements and now requires a sealed official transcript. Anyone know?

yes it is mandatory..

It must be an UNOPENED(opened and they will refuse it) envolope from your university with the university seal stamped across the back of the letter where you close it....

That seems alittle overboard....
My university doesn't have the seal going across the back flap, but they have it on the front part of envelope.

So when I go for another job later with my transcripts, I'll be rejected???

That seems alittle too much.

I just spent a month waiting for my transcripts to arrive. They are finally here. They are all in sealed envelopes with a kind of sticker on the flap from the university. It's not an "official seal" by any means, just one of those return mailing address type stickers.

That's what my university does. If this is not sufficient for immigration then I will be seeking employment in another country.

I hear the winters are not so harsh in Thailand. Cool

My university does the same thing, my transcripts were accepted no questions asked on two different occasions. It was the immigration office in Suwon.

There has to be something across the back flap indicating soem mark from the university

There is a noticable watermark on the FRONT of mine, that's it. And a note that says they are OFFICIAL. And on the back, it just says OFFICIAL, VOID WHEN OPEN and that is OVER the flap, not across.

I know for a fact some Korean universities that issue transcripts just put them in an office envelope, that's all.

I just want to know why immigration (and individual teachers) go through the trouble of getting a copy of transcripts if the conditions are so bad at some (I use that term VERY loosely) schools that people have to change 2 or 3 times? Because no sooner do you leave your job, you have to go through the WHOLE process ALL OVER AGAIN?

and now they say that some credentials are not valid based on a few standards (universities have different ways of mailing official documents)?

I am skeptical about the process

Okay, so I haven't been on the job market, and hence haven't paid much attention to this issue.

When I get rehired and go to immigration to get my status renewed, after three years on the same job, will I be expected to produce sealed transcripts? (Last year I did a bit of looking, so I do have some sealed transcripts on hand, but hate to waste them.)

I'm afraid so...

People are quick to support something that don't pertain to them until it is them that are put in the situation, then it is a crime against humanity that should be repealed once they fall victim.

In the end, the law will hurt the ones who supported it.
It is better to have it removed, in the long run, nothing will change, the bad work conditions, the bad teachers, they will always be there.

If they really wanted to make a difference, they should ONLY allow people with education degrees (BEDs and MEDs) to get E2 visas. Then the parents and government will be satisfied knowing that trained professionals are teaching their children...

..OH! I forgot! To do that, they would have to raise the salary level well past what it is now and start to honor their contracts, which we know will never happen (in many cases).....sad.
