Quick question to anyone who might know:

I have a Mac Powerbook and I'm used to taking it everywhere with me back home, to make use if the wireless airport. Here I seem to get a strong signal in every coffee shop, but for some reason whatever modem I'm accessing doesn't actually let me get online. I haven't seen something like this before, does anyone know what the deal is?

You're probably accessing a NESpot router. You need to get an account with NESpot to use their connections.

Seoul is not war chalker heaven. SK and Nespot are the two main wireless services and they require a membership or some kind of point of sale payment (ie at the Starbucks counter).

COEX is one big, free, hotspot. I've been there a couple of times and just went right online without having to go through Nespot.

The starbucks in the Jeil/Standard Chartered bank in Jongno has a good open hotspot called "apple" or "apple net" or something.

You can access Geckos for free in Itaewon, as has been mentioned, but even better, you can hide up on 2nd floor in Burger King and get a good signal from Gecko's Linksys router, too.
