| If you're reinstalling Windows XP, just pop the CD in and restart. It'll ask you if you want to format later on in the installation process. If you're formatting a drive without an MBR that the OS does not reside on, open up windows explorer, right click on the drive and click on "format." |

If you want "true" DOS, then you need a 98 boot disk. I have just the app for you.
Download from my server this .exe file, and run it. It will make a 98 boot disk so you can run fdisk and partition manually.

| That looked a really useful tool. However, it demands a floppy disk, which is a shame as none of my computers have floppies anymore. |

wow...talk about going crazy:
I was having trouble formatting the hard disk, so I did the following:
began using XP professional's format/delete partitions. Did that.
Then with a clean slate, I began installing my official licensed copy of Korean XP (until my English one comes in from back home). Man....talk about a headache...
I did, however, download a dos prompt onto a floppy. when i got to the dos prompt, i typed: c: it then gave me invalid parameters. It was as if C: wasn't there (by the way..this was BEFORE i deleted the partitions). That is why i went to deleting partitions and formatting this way. |

| Remember XP doesn't sit on top of DOS like most of the non-NT versions before it. It is its own operating system from the ground up. It's a bit like saying "How do I drop to CP/M from DOS?" |
