I think they can do a check afterward and if it's within 10% a petition is considered legit. I think it was 10%. Assuming they know what they're doing they would check ips and make sure that no-one was submitting from the same one over and over again, and that no obviously fake names were in there.

Internet petitions though are more useful as rallying points for a movement than the petition itself, because they're easy enough to just ignore. This petition also does send an automatic email to the government too if you request it, and gives other contact numbers to follow up with which is a good idea.

What gets me is that no good reason has been given to excluded them. And this is coming from someone who works at one of the "media outlets" they are railing about.

They are right - the decision is made by 5 guys in a locked room. I'm surprised more people aren't angry about this. Let's face it: TV is the most important tool in this or any other election, and there is no good reason to lock the Green party out of it.

Yep, and I think one of the five was a former Tory party member as well.
I've been looking at the numbers (as always) recently and now it's up to 24228, so there'll definitely be over 25000 before the first debate. Everything I've seen in the media also agrees that they should be there.

Also, assuming you're literate you'll have also read above that petitions are often more effective in rallying people and getting them to write letters and contact MPs and others directly rather than the mere number of signatures.

Lastly, signing a fake name on a petition invalidates a petition on the same level that people like you posting nonsense invalidates the point of a thread. IOW, not a bit. I believe petitions are supposed to be verifiable at a rate of at least 90% which means we could potentially have 2000 Darth Vaders and still be okay.

Petitions are fine, wonderful. Helps the left wingers feel special. They're just as useful as those anti WTO protests that inspire so much change Rolling Eyes

I have no problem with your petition.

I am merely mentioning that someone has signed this as "Darth Vader", trying to be funny. Making a joke out of it. Lame joke yes, but nonetheless a joke.

And that is how a majority of Canadians view the Green Party: as a joke.
