I've heard back from one of the recruiters I applied for (Orange Education and Recruiting www.eduorange.com) and they've offered me a job at the Korea Herald Language School in Uijungbu City Kyunggi-Do which is apparently part of greater Seoul (Im having a bit of trouble finding it on any maps as I believe it is a new town).
They seem extremely keen and have already sent me the contract, which I may post in another topic and have organised an interview tomorrow with the school and are also apparently going to let me speak to the previous English teacher.
I figure I will see how it goes but am a bit uncertain about the location of the school ie. how far out of the city the joint actually is. The level of enthusiasm the recruiter seems to displaying and the way he seems to be treating the whole thing as an already certain deal is also slightly offputting. Maybe this is just a cultural thing I'm not quite used to. |

Recruiters are under a lot of pressure and schools may be using more than one so they may be facing some competition. Koreans also have a flar for the melodramatic and get excited easily. That said, you should still practice patience. |

Hey fellow Aussie. I'm here in Kyunggi and believe me it is not a new town! They are scared that you wont take the job, because you want to be in Seoul. So here's the low down on Kyunggi.
It's about a ten minute bus ride to Suwon which is a pretty big city - well i'm from the Sunshine Coast, so it's big to me!
You can jump on a bus to Sadang from Kyunggi (bout 10 minutes) and then the subway to Seoul. The hole trip takes about 30 - 40 minutes.
I haven't seen the school your talking about but then it's so bloody cold here that you just stick your head down and get where you want to go as quickly as possible.
As far as being an Aussie and getting work near Seoul, the accent's no drama but most of the jobs will say 'near' Seoul (sneaky), because that's where everyone wants to be - not sure why!
So if your happy with the contract, go for it and come and sus the place out and then when your contract is over you can try for Seoul. If your not happy apply for something from Dave's job board, Work'n'play, English Spectrum or Pusanweb.
Good luck! |

| I know a school in the Seoul area that will be looking for a new teacher in February. But... they don't know it yet. |

Nah... I might have a university job offer in China. But we'll wait until I get paid for last month, before giving notice. If they pay on time (monday) they'll be getting something like 6 weeks notice. If they pay late... well... |

Congrats on the China job Joe.
Where abouts are you going?
Also..has your current school treated you fairly? If so...just give em notice man...you seem like a straight up dude, don't sink to the loser-runner level. |

They'll get notice of some sort... more notice if they pay on time. This has been a problem lately. I might have to go on strike for the first time this week. |

He (Stephen) got me my first job. He might get you a good job but be careful. Like all recruiters, he lies so be sure to talk to the teachers who work at the school. My friend signed a contract from him and it was for 40 hours a week. 30 hours a week is standard. Read your contract carefully and talk to as many of the other foreign teachers as possible!!! He is pretty freakin keen though and can get you a job around Seoul. |

I spoke to the current teacher today and it sounds like the job is a good one. I'm in the process of sorting out the technicalities but it looks like I could be over there by the end of the month which would be ideal. I started another topic with the contract hoping for a bit more advice (if anyone feels up for a bit of reading). Thanks for all your help. |
