Is Canada that divided that there is no way it will reconcile the differences between east and the west.
I think so myself. Until our electoral system changes Canada will be doomed to have minority government. I hope personally that separatist movement will get a huge boost in the west due to the different political ideologies.
What are your thought fellow Canucks. |

| Martin's resigning so we'll have to see what the Libs come up with. I think minority governments aren't such a bad thing. When this one falls I suspect it will be another 4-5 years of a Liberal majority, which seems to be best for keeping everything glued and bandaged together. |

Not at all...
Next election will give us a majority. If the Cons. tank now, Liberals win a majority. If they do well, they will win a majority. Simple as that.
The West has got to stop pretending like they can really influence Canadian politics. |

| Yeah, this win by the conservatives was not an endorsement of their policies or beliefs, it was a rejection of the Liberals. Canadians want fiscal conservatism and social progressivness. That won't change. If the Cons get rid of the wingnuts like Stockwell Day, jason Kenney, and the others then the rest of Canada will get behind them. Had Peter Mackay been the leader or Bernard Lord they probably would have gotten my vote. |

Stephen Harper ran on a moderate conservative platform. His only concession to social conservatives was for another vote on Same-Sex marriage. A vote which will fail because they don't have the numbers.
Considering they only have a minority government there isn't anything 'radical' that they can really do. |

Gay marriage issue = boring
Space travel = 100% awesome
Anyone who talks about gay marriage more than space travel = boring
I don't know what to think about marriage anymore, except that only in a few cases does it ever work out the way it's supposed to be. Marriage over here is so different I've probably become quite jaded towards it all. Cheating on your spouse is nothing in many cases because quite often the spouse has been chosen by a person's parents. OTOH my best friend back home has just told me that his wife is pregnant which is awesome. He's a devout Catholic, though he went through quite a bit before that as did I. |

Fortunately, many Canadians see this instead...
Being a country that supports homosexual marriages = being a country that treats all people as human beings with the same amount of freedom (assuming ofcourse it doesn't interfer with others.)
If they ever try to make churches perform the ceremony against their wishes, I will be fighting on the Christian side. But for now, Christians fighting this are just people trying to force bigotry on others and hiding behind a very old book. |

Unfortunately, the church has lost most its revelance because its own divorce rate equals that of the world. However, that is changing and the stats are improving for the church. A lot of my friends are in happy relationships and deep in love with one another. Our church went through many marriages before we left. Lots of children happening! Lots of fun!
Congradulations with your friend! That's great!
