That statement could (and should?) go like this as well:

But some of the practices that contribute to a cow's, pig's, chicken's death here before it is killed and put in your plate are absolutely repugnant. That's an undeniable fact.

Carry on meat eater.

What right have you to insist that your culture is superior to all other cultures?

Did I miss something here?

ummm "non-acceptace of other cultures" Notice the poster didn't say non--acceptance of cultures just "other cultures" By that the poster is placing his/her culture above those of the "others" It's very clear.
S/He is saying we should not accept other cultures. Therefore the poster's culture is considered the only acceptable standard, thus being superior.

Exactly. Anyway now he knows that most people (according to the poll) feel that dog-eating should be acceptable in other countries.

and this makes him angry because he was looking for a poll that would confirm his view that eating dogs is horrible and that by extension...Korea is horrible and that by extension he was all good and clearly from the "suprior" place... Laughing

Well, I'd add "Igotthisguitar" to my list of "Great Conspiracy Thinkers Who are Vegetarians", but I'm not sure whether he's actually vegetarian yet - or is just now realizing that it's the best way to live (and let live... Cool )

Is it?

Or is it just xenophobic, ignorant trash-talk?

I want to see pictures or personal eye-witness accounts to substantiate the alleged cruel treatment of dogs prior to butcher. I have been to the Moran Dog Market many times, and I did not see one thing that would suggest any beating going on. Sorry, but I am not convinced. I want very recent pictures, or first hand accounts written by members from this forum.

I'm going to side-step the 'why not eat dog if you'll eat beef' debate and focus on animal cruelty.

I ate dog on my first day here out of curiosity and before I knew how they were killed. Now that I've heard the stories about how they're killed I wouldn't eat it again.

Sure animals are abused in the factory farm system but dogs here are strung up, beaten to death with sticks and even blow-torched. I've heard that that no longer happens, but until I see good evidence to confirm it, that's enough reason not to eat it.

ROTFLMAO. What are you an armchair psychiatrist? This makes me mad? Are you serious? And then by extenson-----blah blah blah. Cmon homer I think Korea is horrible? You have just replaced the Urban Myth as the Dave's most excellent fantasy apologist. I didn't think it was possible but it's there in black and white for all to see.

About other species of animals not being systematically tortured to death, I think people just don't think about the cruelty inherent in many common farming practices. In the case of chickens raised for egg production, I don't think it's at all an exaggeration to say that they're tortured every day of their lives. A few years ago I saw video footage of an egg farm investigation in Australia and it was appalling. Some birds had escaped from their cages and fallen into pits of manure, where they were trapped and dying of dehydration or suffocation. Other investigations in the United States and Canada have revealed similar atrocities.

If you castrated your pet dog or cat without anaesthetics, you'd certainly be charged with cruelty. But that practice is routine in animal agriculture, along with other painful procedures like branding, dehorning, debeaking (of chickens) ... and on many egg farms in the U.S., farmers deprive birds of food for days (I forget exactly how long, but I think it may be up to a week).

Maybe it's a month? Since you're pulling numbers out of your ass, why don't you just say a month?

red dog wrote:

It doesn't happen right in front of us so we prefer not to think about it, but it doesn't mean that it's less appalling than what dogs go through. I say protect the dogs AND other animals, everywhere on the planet.

I do agree all animals should be treated equally - humanely.

Have either of you ever actually been on a farm? I grew up on a farm and know exactly how full of shit you guys are. That's my proof.

Some birds had escaped? Are you for real. So, a handful of chickens escaped and ....shit happens. Is that the daily treatment of chickens then? They are ALL taken out to the back thrown into the shit to sweat it out for a few days? Good grief.

I've never eaten dog. It just doesn't look delicious. It's a greasy mess of a soup.

Here's some information about "forced molting," the intentional withholding of food from egg-laying hens to shock their bodies into producing more eggs. Excuse me for not having it all memorized.

http://upc-online.org/molting/52703.htm

Here's what some investigations of U.S. chicken and egg farms have uncovered:

http://upc-online.org/spring03/egg.htm

http://satyamag.com/nov05/park.html

About the dogs, most people here at Dave's are teachers, not investigators. The Korea Animal Protection Society is a reliable source of information and their site is full of photos and eyewitness accounts.

Because someone mentioned pugs in a recent thread:

http://koreananimals.org/dogs_p10.htm

Oh yeah, thanks Rteacher, but really I'm not such a great thinker. Anyone who thinks at all would agree with what I'm saying here.
