Eight gay soldiers discharged from Army last year
A total of eight homosexual soldiers were discharged from the military in 2005, the Army said Friday. They were found to be unfit for military service in accordance with military regulations after they received counseling on the issue.

Gay are unfit to serve? BS. I've served with a few gays in Canada and I would feel a lot safer going in battle with them than I would with the vast majority of my students who are of the age to serve.

The cost of not allowing gays in the military:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2006-02-14-dont-ask-report_x.htm

I got in an argument with some friends on the Korean punk board, and discovered that my American friends unanimously think gays shouldn't be in the military.

Quote:

I do say that gays in the military would cost more than $363 million in losses if we factor in all the soldiers discharged for homophobic activities ranging from harassment to beating; there would be scandals and each year a few folks would end up dead in showers, beaten to death by drunk GIs who simply do not want to be near gays.

Imagine an environemtn where absurd amounts of folks are masculine and proud, and throw a gay into it, and what can you expect will happen?

The results will cost more than $363 million.

Quote:

I'm sorry, Jon, but gays have no place in the military -- just like women have no place in submarines, tanks and the like. It doesn't mean that they are inferior in any way, or that they are any less of a patriot, or a man if you please. Certain instances would cause too much trouble in combat. Sex, romance, whatever you want to label it with: there is no need for any of it in combat. And, regardless of common opinion, armies are for combat.

The Spartan army's power was based on homosexuality. They have make lovers fight together side by side. Each soldier fought harder and with more determination because he was figting for his lover first and foremost. Its like if I was to fight for my country, Id probbaly try and get out of it. It means nothing to me. But if I was to fight for my wife I would kill without hesitation to protect her.

Yes, but could you order her to her death?

What would divorce mean? She would get to execute you for treason. No, she just takes half your money and you can live the rest of your life in a depraved citizenship status.

No gays in the military is a world-wide thing, for the most part. But whats the reason they give? Whats the rational?

...that the government leaders are nothing but little boys afraid that someone's going to try to bugger them. People often think of gay men as being prancy, feminine, whiney little girly-men...that is often not the case. They can have any damn personality tha they feel like. The official rational is that women and gays could not handle the stress of combat, they're ""too emotional". Furthermore, the politicians express "concern" that homosexuals could face harrasment and beatings within military service.

i know that the american army has a "don't ask, don't tell" policy regarding gay dudes.

i guess we should look at the fact that korea is accepting that there actually are gay people in korea as a good thing. first they will recognise that gay is a real and then they will eventually accept them into society. it's a slow and painful, yet esssential process. in a perfect world, it wouldn't be necessary, but this world is what it is.

Funny how so many straight men seem to think they are irrisistable to gay men despite the fact they routinely strike out with women .

World-wide?

You're correct. Most countries ban gays from serving in the military. Except for these countries:

* Australia
* Austria
* The Bahamas
* Belgium
* Canada
* Colombia
* Czech Republic
* Denmark
* Estonia
* Finland
* France
* Germany
* Ireland
* Israel
* Lithuania
* The Netherlands
* New Zealand
* Norway
* Slovenia
* South Africa
* Spain
* Sweden
* Switzerland
* Taiwan
* Thailand
* United Kingdom

There's a good bunch of countries on there, almost all places I'd rather live than the US. It's funny to see South Africa has more gay rights than the US.

Now what would the person who wrote this say about co-ed armies!
