SD House Approves Abortion Ban Bill
Hmmm.. Looks like the abortion debate is going to get even uglier now.

Can the feds veto and/or Supreme court overturn it? |

Well part of the reason the lawmakers of south dakota did it is they knew they'd get sued by Planned Parenthood and the like, saying the law is unconstitutional. This bad boy is going to be in the courts for years. The lawmakers are hoping it gets bumped up to the Supreme court eventually, where it'll be allowed to pass, and therefore eliminating Roe v. Wade. It is no coincidence whatsoever that the bill was passed soon after Alioto's confirmation. According to the article, some pro-life person has donated 1 million bucks for South Dakota to fight the lawsuit. A fund to pay for the legal fees is being arranged as well.

Each state writes its own laws regulating the details of abortion. Through its decisions, the Supreme Court sets the guidelines. The Court can void a state (or federal) law that oversteps those guidelines.
Laws regulating capital punishment are handled the same. Some states, like Texas, have it; some states, like Iowa, do not. Those states with it must comply with Court guidelines.
I'm not a lawyer and certainly no expert on abortion law, so I don't know if abortion can be legal in one state and illegal in another state, like capital punishment is now. In my opinion, that would be the best solution to the issue. But as I say, I don't know if it is constitutionally possible. |

I kind of doubt that rape and incest will make much of a difference to the birth rate. |
