As weird as it sounds (and this may very well be a candidate for The Most Pointless Dave's Thread), I need a new gimmick for what to do with my hands when I'm standing around. Dressed for work, I wear what I will readily admit are dork clothes ; and because the majority of my pants were bought in Korea, and thus have shallow pockets, I can't pull off sticking my hands in my pockets.

Other options available to me are to

- hold my wrist behind my back (too Confucian for my taste)

- stand with arms akimbo (too high school coach, and with the population density -- that works on so many levels, by the way -- of Korea, people keep banging into my elbows)

- cross both arms in front of my chest (too standoffish/creepy old manish)

- grip my elbow from the front (too Scotty in Boogie Nights)

- clasp both hands in front of me (too effeminate)

and

- keep both arms at my sides, like a zombie

Needless to say, any style tips would be appreciated.

So vote 'arms akimbo,' then.

PS - no way to edit the poll question? That 2nd your should be a you're. Obviously this is the worst thing this week to happen to me.

I am one of the most fidgety people ever when it comes to my hands, I never know what to do with them, sometimes in my pockets, sometimes behind my back, sometimes by my sides. I feel awkard when it comes to standing around and doing nothing. I did have my hands in my pockets at a kindy open day thing once and my boss came and physically removed my hands from my pockets - not in front of the parents, I mean wtf?

Wow, without any sarcasm I must say that's a great question. I think about that a lot when I'm standing around. I tend to take cues from those in the vicinity, but 'arms folded across the chest' is always a good stand by. I also alternate regularly to 'hands in pockets' and 'hands behind back'.

At different times most of the options you have there. But if I'm standing on a subway or waiting around for someone then there's a 99% I'm reading something, so usually my hands are holding a book.

I think you're overthinking the issue. Just do whatever's most comfortable.

I'm a fidgeter, so I'd have to check all of the above.

That's the trouble: none of the options are comfortable. I was kinda hoping someone would fill me in on a revolutionary new technique.

I would like to know what suggestions the 2 people who voted 'other' have. Unfortunately, I suspect it's Vanislander and Beav who picked that one, the former perhaps not familiar with the word akimbo, the latter not reading the poll question stating when your/you're not holding anything.
