Johnny wants a woman, Johnny wants to think of a joke.
Had to play it on after seeing that.
And yeah, I'm American and I'm afraid of us too. You give a redneck enough beer and spare parts and he'll build something with enough explosive power to shoot a pumpkin across three counties. And we turn lawn mowers into formula one racing machines. And this is what we do when we're bored.
And, on a more serious level, back in...oh I think it was 1975 or there abouts, we set the record for fastest manned flight with the SR-71 Blackbird. That was more than thirty years ago and no one has been able to top it. You really don't think we've been sleeping since then, do you? God only knows what's been going on away from prying eyes. It's awe-inspiring and terrifying all at the same time.
A little about the Blackbird since this got me thinking of it:
| Quote: |
The SR-71 has accumulated many outstanding achievements. The SR-71 program itself has been a total success based on the fact that the aircraft holds all of the official airspeed and altitude records. On September 13, 1974, an SR-71A set a speed record from London to Los Angeles at an average speed of 1,435.587 mph. On July 28, 1976, an SR-71A set an Altitude in Horizontal Flight record at 85,068.997 feet. On that same day, the aircraft set the Speed Over a Closed Course record of 2,193.167 mph. On July 27, 1976, the SR-71 set a Speed Over a Closed Circuit record at a speed of 2,092.294 mph. On September 1, 1974, the airplane set a record from New York to London in 1 hour, 54 minutes, and 56.4 seconds.
The SR-71 is the fastest and highest flying production aircraft in the world. The only aircraft that is faster is the X-15 that can reach a speed of over 4,000 mph. The only aircraft ever to come close to the SR-71's speed besides the X-15 is the Russian MiG-25 Foxbat. The MiG-25 could only reach speeds of over Mach 3 for a few minutes. The Anglo-French Concorde is the only aircraft besides the SR-71 that can fly at supersonic speeds for hours at a time. |
Pretty frelling cool.

Interestingly enough, tis is the only person American or otherwise, who seems to have had a reaction on this level. ing.
Please ignore him everyone. Let the conversation continue. And Canadians wear their mothers' Army boots. |

| In India, much higher (and greater...) percentages of the populace believe in reincarnation, ghosts, angels, withches, goblins, hobgoblins, magic carpets, UFO aliens, and animal incarnations ... |

Hindi seem to be the only significant ideologic group that have adopted 'animal reincarnation'. Pretty much everyone else finds this absurd.
I see no reason to think animal reincarnation occurs. I see no valid evidence to suggest it does.
I see reason to think metempsychosis can possibly occur. I see valid evidence to suggest it does.
One requires faith. The other requires probability. Which one has more substance?
Namaste. |

Johnny wants p--y and dope...
Bring on the Bowie. I liked his NIN work much better than Tin Machine.
This is a mean-spirited thread. Because one believes in angels, ergo they're idiots? Someone had to say this. Most (not all) of the great western minds until the enlightenment were believers. They're all fools?
sigh... don't answer that question....
But the Joan of Arc one made me laugh. Maybe more people have seen Bill & Ted than we thought..

Yes, and I'd say the US and India are about equally highly developed and advanced societies. |

so, because people believe in ghosts, angels, aliens, and reincarnation they're troubled, potentially violent psychotics? Is that what you mean? Hearin' things that aren't there? Having invisible friends? Faith healing? Hmm? Self-proclaimed prophets? Friend of Jesus?
Dude, you should't be afraid of Americans...you should be squatting in your root cellar with a tin-foil hat hiding from your fellow humans. Almost every country has a large contingent of people who believe in crap they couldn't prove or substantiate if they wanted to.
My wife, who's Korean...has never seen a ghost, but claims to be scared of them. Whoever that idiot is that's rattling around in our kitchen in the middle of the night when no one is awake needs to stay dead and BE QUIET. |

It's scary because Americans should simply KNOW BETTER. America is one of the most technologically, scientifically advanced countries in the world, yet most people believe in ghosts and rotund, babyfaced little cupids floating around shooting invisible arrows into lovers' hearts?
It's about time in the cycle for a new "age of reason". |

One has to wonder as history is getting a more detailed look recently just how many of them were actually believers in anything (witchs, vampires, Christianity). Back then, if you weren't with the town people, you were keeping them well lit on a stake (or the Kings edicts or the Church's beliefs). |
