In the end it all depends on your relationship with your principal. Your principal can choose to enforce certain conditions of the contract (such as vacation), or not. Case in point: I had a great relationship with the prinicpal of my school for the first two years. He allowed me to bend the rules every which way, and in return I went the extra mile for the school. This year a new prinicipal has taken over. I also have a good relationship with him, but he's a stickler for the rules. So I'm not renewing. End of story.
Bottom line: you roll the dice, you take your chances with these public school positions, regardless of what's stipulated in the contract. Same as with any ESL job. Maybe even worse in some cases, because you may get stuck with a real bummer of a co-teacher. I was lucky. |
