Let's say that you're out with your girlfriend on your one-month anniversary (gag, puke) and you want to ask the bartender to play a song request, because your girl likes it and it's your special day, etc. What should you say?

제여자친구가 듣고싶어하는 노래가 있어요. 혹시 노래를 신청 해도 되요? / 노래를 신청할 수 있어요?

My girlfriend has a song she wants to hear. By any chance can I request songs?

Choose either of the last two endings.

Woah that's surprising. Is 신청 better than 부탁 in that situation?

I noticed that too. The coolness factor just went up.

Yes, it's very natural to use 신청 in that situation and it's polite too. Adding 혹시 makes it even more polite. 신청하다 means "to apply" but Koreans use it when requesting songs.
