Went to Chiaksan park, then into Wonju for the night.

Aahh, I think, finally my chance to stay in one of these saunas everyone raves about! And cheap!

It's a motel room with a bath. It was W20,000.

Have I been ripped off or has everyone been having me on?

Sounds about right.

My local neighborhood one costs 4,000 won daytime before 6pm or 15,000 overnight (after 6pm).

I'd say you stayed in a motel. The symbol for saunas and motels is the same. It's a bit confusing at first.

isnt a sauna the public place where korean men grunt and point at you, your tats, and your oversize dingle-dangle?

20,000 won?

That's bloody cheap for a motel with a bath.

I guess so. I just heard all these dream stories of them being w10,000 with beautiful saunas 'n stuff, and you have your own room as a side.

Saunas are a lot cheaper than motels, 10,000won is on the high side I would presume.

I've never heard of a regular sauna that gives you your own room. Every time I've gone, I've paid about 7,000 won and had to sleep in either a community area on the floor, or in a room for only men on the floor.

It's always a back-breaking sleeping experience. But at least you can get a nice bath when you wake up.

If its your bag, you can have a sauna experience, plus private overnight room to yourself, but you'll also have to tolerate an hour of a hot Korean girl giving you a nude body massage before you can get to your room. Expect to pay 160K at the low end.

Sounds like a motel to me. Most saunas don't have a bath, they usually have a few baths and there are lots of naked people. Were there lots of naked people?

For an overnight sauna experience that is worth anything you want to stay in a jjimjilbang 찜질방 . They vary a lot in quality. You don't get your own room. Some are freakin fantastic places with awesome scenery, 10+ different baths and 10+ different saunas. They also include PC Rooms, restaurants, movie rooms, 노래방s and so on. If you get a good one. If you get a bad one you might get like 3 baths, a sauna, and a man who rolls on top of you and expects SXE because you're in a gay one and you didn't realise. That is kinda sucky. Unless you trick one of the lesbians into going straight. Then it can be fun.
