NOT "PER SAY"
"Per say" = "Search found 650 matches"
"Per se" = "Search found 2241 matches"
That is like 25% of people using the term incorrectly. I bet most of those aren't "Miss Qs" either. That definately winds me up much more than people with there other grammetical erors. |

You missed on, HE. It's "more then", not "more than".
And while we're on the subject, what's that rock song I keep thinking of these days? It goes something like "ooooh, baby... something-something" and then there's this great guitar riff that kinda goes like "weeeeerrrrr!, weeeerrrrrr!, WEEEEEEERRRR!", really loud, you know? And then it's "ooooh baby, you really ... something-something" -- that's the chorus. Man, that song totally rocks. Anyway, what's it called again? You hear it all the time, everyone knows it. C'mon, you know... "ooooh, baby..."? No? |

you know, i really don't think it makes that much difference how good a teacher's grammar is over here. most of the kids struggle to make cohesive and coherent sentences, and i really don't think minor spelling errors on the teacher's part is what is going to make or break a student's ability to communicate in pidgin english. and let's face it, a lot of the time, that's all we can expect. |

grammar or spelling....grammar or spelling...It's SO hard not to react.
I used to know a teacher who used 'per se' in about every third sentence, even when speaking to Koreans. Its use didn't bother me so much, per say, but the frequency did. |

Wow! My English sucks then. I would have thought it was "I like it more than XXX" Even though I guess it should really be "I like it better than XXX"
WHAT?!? I've just confused the helll out of myself.
When the heck do we say "more then"?? |

When we're eating something delicious. Then we're like, "I'll have more, then." |

They were both trying to be funny. HE was intentionally making some obvious mistakes and Guru was trying to say that HE forgot to make one more mistake. It is supposed to be 'than'. (Any highschool dropout should know that.)
I can't believe I went through the effort of explaining that. |

Yes, and I also make an unintentional typo -- "on" should have been "one".
Maddening. |

Oh, be nice. Everyone has brain cramps from time to time. Mine, unfortunately, has lasted about 16 months.
And I never thought of Guru as having a sense of humour so didn't clue in to the joke. Not that I really know Guru or remember many of his posts, he just happens to stick out in my head as being all business and no foolin about. (yes, i know i may be WAY off) |
