I saw 괴물 yesterday. I'll say, if you care, that I really liked it. I only understood about 50% of the dialog (I couldn't understand a damn thing the grandpa said) but it was enough to enjoy it. This question is, is it anti-American?

I say, yes, it is anti-American government. But it's not anti-American person. I say that because all the American scientists and officials in the movie are more or less evil. But then there's that American dude who rushes off to save everybody in the first scene. And the dude has a Korean girlfriend no less!

Dumping of Toxic Chemicals Into Streams
It is shocking news that 29 timber companies were found to have released 271 tons of formalin over the past three years into streams feeding the Han River, the main source of drinking water for Seoul and Kyonggi Province. Formalin is basically a watered-down version of the highly toxic formaldehyde.

A diplomatic dispute appears to be brewing following a guilty verdict reached in absentia yesterday by the Seoul District Court involving Albert McFarland, an American civilian employee of the U.S. military's mortuary, accused of discharging toxic chemicals into Seoul's Han River.
The court ruling imposed a six-month prison term on Mr. McFarland who was found guilty of discharging 24 gallons of formaldehyde into the river in February, 2000.

i caught a little bit of that vibe, but it did not seem to be the base note. as in welcome to dongmakgol it seemed to me that they were (awkwardly accomplished as it were) trying to be somewhat balanced about it. good flick.
