Results to my quiz : Q (1) = Thailand.

Question (2) = Korea.

Someone said they had horrible experiences in Thailand. I've just got the warmest feelings for the Thai people. Hell, years ago I nearly died up near the Golden Triangle (chronic ameobic dysentary). I was being supported by my girlfriend and a Thai man into a 'hospital' - and the local Thais were coming up to me and squeezing my wrist. I've never felt more like 'death warmed up' but their nam jai (and some medicine ) saw me through. "Mai pen rai."

dude, it has to be thailand! its fun here, but they are in a league of their own over in thailand. Also you get opportunities to do tefl courses if you dont have one. They also have the best beaches and the most friendly people i have seen or met. The food is a miillllllllion times better than korea, and everyone already seems to speak English, so half yer job's done already! DEFINITELY Thailand!!!!!

If you work in Thailand, you get the holidays all the locals do. That's when all the beaches are chock full.

If money is not an issue, take a month holiday before you start work there.

Hi,

I just returned from doing summer camp in Korea and I loved every minute of it. I hate to say it, but who you teach with and the school you work for can make or break your experience. My Korean American friends were worried I was not in Seoul, but I had an incredible time in a town about an hour or an hour and a half outside of Seoul. Korea is a great place to take weekend trips because the train system is so extensive.

I know nothing about Thailand, but I wouldn't trade my experience in Korea for anything. The kids were great and although the Korean ways sometimes seem backwards, they work hard to please.

I remember one poster, Teacher541, who would work at a uni then take his family to Thailand for a month or two during vacation. That's probably a sweet setup.

Or save a nest egg in Korea and then spend six months in Thailand NOT WORKING. That's something I've been long considering.

Tiger Beer is right. Thailand is not as cheap as people like to think. Of course it's possible to live on like US$3 a day like some of the locals do, but that just sucks (we're talking crappy street vendor udon for lunch and dinner everyday ad nauseum)... But if you're in a nicer part of Bangkok, or on one of the more club-med style islands like Samui, and want to have fun all the time, you could blow several grand US in a month without trying.
I went to Bangkok about a year ago with around 400,000 Japanese yen (about US$4000) and spent it all after 6 weeks (and I was even staying at a friend's place for free)... that's nearly a grand a week (we went a bit nuts though, mind you)... But if you're living there and don't have crazy nights out everyday drinking at fancy clubs etc. and don't shop too much you can of course live on a fraction of that amount. But don't expect to live it large without having a sizeable amount of cash. You gotta pay to play...

But the first time I went to Thailand I was pretty much broke and can still vouch that it is a way more fun place to be poor in than Korea. It's really a great country, I especially love Thai people. If you can get a decent job there go for it. You won't get rich, but you'll probably have a blast.
