I have two decent job offers in the Ilsan city area but I'm struggling to find any info on the place. Hoping to move in the next week or two and know no-one so any advice would be great.
Thx

We live in Ilsan and love it. It's great. Lots of great places to walk, eat, shop, and close enough to Seoul that a trip in is not a huge deal. There is a walking street with shops and restaurants called LaFesta that has great ribs for a night out. We lived in Seoul last year and much prefer it here. The air is cleaner, there is less sewage smell, and they have cushioned sidewalks! (go planned city!!)

First off, Ilsan is NOT a city, it's a ward as in Ilsan-gu. It's part of the city of GOYANG, Gyeonggi Province.

Yes, Ilsan seemed very nice and clean on the occasions I visited. Has a nice park there with a lake, if memory serves me. It's well over an hour away from downtown Seoul on line 3 however. I'm in northwest Seoul myself and it takes me a good hour to get to Ilsan on the subway. I'd miss proximity to Itaewon and stuff like that personally, but if you don't mind that, I think it'd be a nice place to live.

I am very familar with Ilsan. Please PM me if you want any info on the schools that have offered you a position.

Overall, Ilsan is an excellent place to live. I enjoyed my two years there and I still visit there frequently to meet with friends.

No second off, and if that was an attempt at comedy, no wonder you're teaching English in Korea.

Myself and my girlfriend have lived in Ilsan for 6 months, and totally love it. It has everything you need in close proximity, and as others have pointed out, also an impressive park and shopping area. The commute to Seoul doesn't bother me at all, in fact we only go into Seoul every 3rd weekend or something.

No doubt someone will eventually post how any "satellite city" of Seoul is boring with no nightlife, but these people are crazy. Like anywhere in Korea there are pubs wherever you look, so if your in good company, with beer, it's surely never boring.

Feel free to give me a PM if you have any questions, as I did the same thing to others when job hunting, and it was a great help to me.

Ilsan is great, I lived in greater Goyang for over a year and still have friends who I visit there regularly. The social scene is far better than other satellite cities, there is a good football (soccer) team you can join there and have a ready made social base (www.lokomotiv-goyang.com). Depending on where you are, you can be in Hongdae/Sincheon in under an hour, but there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to keep you happy, especially around La Festa in Jeongbalsan. There is also a lot to keep you interested in the surrounding countryside and, this is a big bonus, the KTX originates from Hangshindong station twice a day, meaning you can get from your doorstep to Busan in around 3 hours.

even though the subway may take a long time to reach seoul(depending on where u want to go), you can get to gangnam via bus in 25 minutes. it reminds me of bundang, isolated at times, but close enough to the city if u need to go there
