Something about this topic I don't like. Women who dress however they want are whores and its against the entire women's movement.
Makes it sounds like feminism/women's movement was all about moving things back to the Victorian Era. (Contrary to everything I've read).
This 'if she doesn't cover up really really well.. she's a whore' mentality should have died out ages ago. |

I once had an argument with a girl who said that she had the right to dress in any way she pleased, and that men who thought she was a bad girl were wrong to judge her. Well, to me, every society has social conventions about what kind of dress sends what message, and a girl two-thirds naked swivelling her bum at everyone tells me she's not necessarily a wh*re (prostitute), but likely a sl*t (promiscuous). [That was beeped, and I don't know why.]
We can argue that such mores are unnecessary, but for now our culture has them, and I don't think I'm being old school by thinking that a girl with a tiny T-shirt saying "Ruv you rong time" has a certain lifestyle. If I'm told I'm not allowed to assume anything, I feel cheated in a way; someone wants to have it both ways, like that girl, by dressing the way society says a tart dresses in order to shock everyone, but blaming me for having the dirty mind.
I'm establishing a balance. Of course, I think such standards need to evolve, and a little controversy (and a lot of Jessica Alba) makes life interesting. But I'm not buying this argument that, I'm a liberated woman, I can walk around in a g-string, and you have no right to judge me. Stop you, maybe I don't. Offer my opinion that it's vulgar and a poor example, I do.

Sure, there are societal conventions. I don't really like to see women going to extreme lengths to look sexy, especially where street fashion is concerned. It's tacky, and sometimes even grotesque.
However, I have to disagree on your sl*t diagnosis. You could conclude that a girl is dressing up in order to attract male attention which will lead to indiscriminate, irresponsible sex, and you could bet on a few other people agreeing with you. Nevertheless, I'd guess that a lot of girls just like the attention in and of itself. They may select their sex partners extremely carefully, or not at all. It's not really up to you to peer into their minds and decide what they want. |

Personal attacks are the mark of a weak argument and a weak debater, and you fail on both counts miserably. I accused you of being drunk, but that was hyperbole and not at all serious. Seriously, I think you're just not that bright. Otherwise, why would you hurl accusations so freely, without merit? Show me where I have been vulgar, abusive and hostile. I think Kermo may be on to something here.
As long as there are many men who will appreciate looking at scantily clad women, there will be women who will dress scantily. In an age with few sexual strictures, there will be more women who do. Regardless of what it says about the frequency of a woman's sexual adventures, getting lots of men to drop their jaws, pop their eyes and store up mental footage for later one-handed use ... well, that's a position of power. It's a rush, and I'm betting it's more often about that rush than it is about getting laid. It does nothing for me (and wouldn't even if I weren't gay), but more power to them. |

I think that if school uniforms were instituted in all public and private schools through college it would serve to lessen the impact of excessively risque fashions targeting young people...
I think that it would also be conducive to a somewhat better learning environment and help level the playing field between those who can afford "designer" clothes and those who can't.
(Of course, the rich kids will still have their expensive cell phones, and MP3 players, etc. - and those items probably shouldn't be allowed in classrooms either...) |
