Yep I've been here a few weeks now - not on the mainland and not in a city. I've never given up on anything before but at the end of my tether on this one. Finish at 10.30pm - school makes me go in at 1.30 pm (contrary to contract) - freezing flat, freezing school, no resources, children no command of the Eng;ish language - they just memorise. Also all attempts to meet people here thwarted - well im the only foreigner at my school and in my village. Foreigners in the local city all much younger and American/Canadian. I'm 32 and I dont have a social problem, I love to party etc maybe too much.

So apart from lecturing me about the honourable thing to do. If I was to leave in the next couple of days .. could I re-enter the country again and work on the mainland?? Obviously with the beauty of hindsight I should have gone to Seoul.

I dont' see anything wrong except that you want to be in a big party city. Suck it up. Finish your contract and THEN move to the big city. By then you will have saved up enough money to aford a K girlfriend for a few months....

How about lecturing you on how you should teach kids with very low English abilities? Dave's has a great section on teaching resources, you know, and if you need help, we're more than happy to give you a hand with advice or whatnot.

Thanks for your replies. Yes I did sound like a moaner - apologies.

As for saving for a Korean girlfriend - I'm a girl so won't be going down that avenue!! Id rather save for a few months travel on my own.

My school made me teach until 10.30pm in my first 6 months. It was killing me. Another Hagwon owner (Korean) told me it is illegal to teach past 10pm. Mr Lee said that if my school insisted, I should tell them that "the Education Office will be dropping by for an inspection".

Mr Lee gave good advice. The school VERY RELUCTANTLY dropped all classes after 10pm (for me - not the K teachers). And yes, I did have to point out that it is illegal, and that the school knew this because they 'half-close' the front door after 10pm (to make it look like the school is just about to close for kids 'just finishing up homework etc'). Actually, my school teaches till 12.30pm!
