I've been a vegetarian for 18 years. I regularly share meals with non-vegetarians and I've never preached to anyone. I spent the time and did the research before I made my decision, others can do the same. Last edited by ella on Thu Nov 23, 2006 6:05 pm; edited 1 time in total

Forgive me for pointing out the obvious, but this isn't a dinner table. What often happens at dinner tables is that the topic of vegetarianism comes up inevitably -- either people see the vegetarian eating something "different," or he or she mentions it to prevent people from offering something inappropriate. Then some obnoxious nonvegetarian asks "why" and goes on to force the vegetarian to defend his or her beliefs at the dinner table -- usually the last thing the vegetarian wants to do. I mean, if you don't care and really aren't interested in hearing the reasons, why ask?

I've only ever get aggressive about it when it's being forced on me or popping up all over the place.

It's not that I think that "flotsam" resembles a blowfish in appearance ( he's not bad looking...) The allusion was to his often getting, in my opinion, too puffed up in his condescending attacks on others. I personally rarely take any offense at his jabs at me because I appreciate the humor and general entertainment value that they provide. However, his tenaciously insulting those who really don't apprectiate his humor at all and are personally offended is nicht so gut and should be toned way down...

Thanks, Rteacher ... and I really don't understand why anyone appreciates that sort of "humour" at all. Some of the mods evidently do, though.

This is my experience. It doesn't happen as often these days (people are getting more used to us?) but now and again some smart arse just has to start w@nking off about it. Tiresome.

Well, overgeneralizing DOES make the world a simpler place (although certainly not a more tolerant one). I suppose we should expect a bit of that (from advocates of both ideologies) in a topic entitled "Vegetarians are as annoying as Mormons".

I mean, the topic does set up the expectation for ppl to answer in a general way like the original statement, doesn't it? D
