I work in a public school now. I'm assuming that universities start about the same time. I'm in a weird position where I wot be able to really start a new job unitl April. I hope it will be possible to start then. What are your experiences on starting off the normal time at universities. It worked when I got a job at a public school...

Last week of Feb or first week of March. Not necessarily on a Monday, either.

The only way you could possibly start in April is if you got hired by a not very good university. One can get hired by public schools at anytime since people pull runners or they cannot fill certain position because of location or pay. I doubt that any universities start in April so your only chance would be if a university could not find anyone to take the job. The chances of that are not very high.

On that note, Yonsei Language Center is desperate these days since they are paying only 1.8 with no housing. Furthermore they work on a quarter system so; they may have openings in April.

Im in a werid situation. I work at a public school now but my contract ends at the end of March. What do you guys suggest? Maybe I should work under the table until the next hiring period and try to get a University job?

You must be Canadian. Another law breaking Canadian English teacher. You should try to find temp work or you will be off the main university schedule as long as you stay in Korea.

if you cannot find under the table work in Korea you could probably negoiate a three month contract in China. One thing to consider is that most universities will want to interview in person so you need to be in Korea during the interviewing process (June/July).

How realistic is it for me, since I don't have a masters? I've meet people who don't have masters and teach at Universities, but do they really make as much?

I was in the same situation last year. I negotiated a 5 month contract with my boss from April - August last year, so that I could teach at a public school or university if I wanted to. It was quite simple, and all I had to do was take the new contract with the starting and ending date to immigration to get everything approved. They also gave me a visa extension. If I didn't do this, I would keep missing out on the starting date by 1 month.
