Most of these guys are really well known.

An obscure a couple of more obscure ones, Pierre Bensusan and Gordon Giltrap. Both obscure but incredible folk guitar players. Allan Holdsworth is fairly obscure too, if you're a guitar player you've heard of him in all probability, but if you're not it is very unlikely.

Allan Holdsworth is great, as is Fredrik Thordendal who is strongly influenced by him.

Mike Keneally is also pretty awesome.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Skwisgaar Skwigelf.....

He IS fast, but I prefer Toki Wartooth's rhythmic strumming.

Well they pretty much mix him out in the studio, him and Murderface's excellent base lines. The band is basically all SKwisgaar and Nathan explosion.

I'll second an ealier vote for John Frusciante. One guy said he was nothing but a spaz but I can only imagine that he hasn't really paid mushc attention to a lot of the stuff John has written/played. Keep in mind he has A LOT of solo albums that are nothing like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. HE is an unbelievable guitarist and is the antithesis of as spaz.
