I know that this sounds strange, but I would like to know which is the nationality of the majority in this forum, and if they could tell me something about their countries and cultures and what they know about Argentina.

I see that this topic isnt the most popular, but I would like to know more about the places where you live.
Argentina is not only football, but thats the stereotype we have.
Ill wait for your answer.

no Laughing the stereotype i have about argentina is a land with a beautiful tropical rainforest, some of the most phenomenal cascades in the world, a hot climate and amazing remains of the inka cultures.

When you apply to join the ESL Cafe you are asked to state where you are from and what you do.

Very few people give this information.

For example, Asterix says nothing. Bud says he is is the US, and that's all.

Why is Dave so slack about this? Why bother to ask the questions?

asterix is from canada as far as i understood him. he only didn't write it in his profile.

sometimes i think too, i should erase my "location" because at the moment there are especially in the "current news" ~political discussions some "hints" like for example "and what has germany done in the ww2" or whatever.. i'm really sick of this, i mean, i'm german, but i'm not responsible for what my gouvernment does or has done. sometimes it sounds like this.. You have a correct idea if you're thinking in the North of Argentina.but the centre and South are completely different.

Youre completely right. I am having the same problems sometimes. In the current news forum, in the part of England being attaked started a discusion about Falklands only because Im Argentinian. but I wont erase my nationality. It must be harder for you.

Pugachev is referencing an older argument. There are some Japanese posters here, but mostly they post in "Food", "Travel", "Movies", and other light fun subjects. But if they stray into the more serious "Current Events" topic to talk about why the rest of Asia still hates them, some strongly patriotic nationalistic Chinese posters (not that I'm condemning the attitude, I have patriotic feelings myself so I understand) will quickly pounce like hungry cats on mice and rake the Japanese over hot coals for what the Japanese did to China 60+ years ago.
Because of the political situation over in the Far East, it's still a sensitive issue. Depending on who you ask, Japan never made a real heartfelt apology for its actions; some people feel it never underwent a true transformation to a peaceful state like Germany that is mindful of its past and is taking steps to avoid a return to militarism.

Anyway, IMHO, if you are not ashamed of your country, go ahead and post it in your profile. People may tease you about it, but so what? What country hasn't done some damage to some other people or country in the past? Yeah, that Kaiser Wilhelm was a right boogerhead, eh? If he hadn't lost WWI, we wouldn't be bothered by the French today! Wink

Is that argument as simple as just making a heartfelt apology?I dont think so.I remember, that old topic was given rise to a whitewashing history textbook(which led to a protest against Japan in China) and the yearly official worshipping to war criminals. The Chinese posters, included me as well, were angry about some of the Japanese posters here denied those all, apparently they were uneducated about their past otherwise they were doing it purposely.Of course the war happened sixty years earlier, and nobody asked the postwar generations to take responsibility for what their forefathers did in the war,but it doesn't mean they could lie on the past doing, whitewashing the invasion and massacre that Japan has ever done, saying nothing of taking the wrong doing as some kind of honoring things that worth to be worshipped nationwidely and officially.

So long since the topic has sunk, still some guys do not know what was arguing about. Rolling Eyes
