Why don't people in China believe the positive reports from Chinese state media?

Recently a journalist in China worte a news in which he praised a chief of communist party in a county, the results is that crowded field of Internet users in China threw stones at him and considered him of kiss-ass.

We don't exactly know whether this journalist is a decent reporter or not,but this circumstance prove that most people in China haven't trusted the positive reports from Chinese state media for a long time.

The reason why people in China don't believe the positive reports from state media is that Chinese media have lost their principle of being fairness ,independent and rightness,Chinese communist government has lost its trust from most of people in China, suspicion has dominated entire Chinese society.

So Chinese communist government has taken its own drugs now,Chinese state media have made up a lot of fake positive reports for a long time ,most people in China don't trust these kinds of reports any more, the interesting thing is that when there are some negative reports or rumors people in China begin to believe in them now.

How do China recover from this terrible trust crisis?the only means is that Chinse communist government has to give up its total control of all media in China, abandon the media's role of being mouthpiece of Chinese communist party, news media have to become independent media in China,if so ,people in China may restore the trust someday in the future.

I totally disagree with this hostile view-point toward our Chinese people!
It has no any concrete base, I suppose.

What evidences do you want ?

Do China have freedom of speech and press?

Doesn't Chinese communist government control all media in China?

Doesn't CCTV fool Chinese people?

You have the rights not to agree with me on this issue, but could you give me fact to prove me wrong?please don't just shout out some slogans like red guard in the time of Culture Revolution.

When a government does not follow its own laws (constitution), it is pretty difficult for its citizens to trust it. Oh yes, it is true for any other country.

Quote:
Article 35. Freedom of speech, press, assembly

Citizens of the People's Republic of China enjoy freedom of speech, of the press, of assembly, of association, of procession and of demonstration.

- Constitution of the People's Republic of China

Quote:
Article 5. Constitutional supremacy
...
All state organs, the armed forces, all political parties and public organizations and all enterprises and institutions must abide by the Constitution and the law.
...

- Constitution of the People's Republic of China

The real thing can only be found in the reality, and not in bare papers. You can interpret a paper in one way, or in any way else.

I'm a Chinese and I'm feeling very happy in China. (ok, the polution is not that good in some areas...) But I am happy and I don't have any relatives who don't feel happy in China.

I think I have many rights in China, exept of looking at some foreign porn sites. So I think it's not important what bare papers say, (if they really say such things like you quoted) it's important what you can find in reality.

China has a very good economy and all foreign countries like in Europe or America are profiting from this economy. In China you have a lot of freedom to do, you can build up an own store, just on tzhe street, without so many papers and bureaucracy from the government, like what is in e.g. Germany.

Just look at America, they claim that they are the freest country in the whole world, but nearly a half of it's population want to change their president, and still nothing is changed. What a freedom.

The most important is not what you say, it's what you do.

I did provide a link on my original message:
http://english.peopledaily.com.cn/constitution/constitution.html

Here's what it says in Chinese:

中华人民共和国宪法
第五条 中华人民共和国实行依法治国,建设社会主义法治国家。
  国家维护社会主义法制的统一和尊严。
  一切法律、行政法规和地方性法规都不得同宪法相抵触。
  一切国家机关和武装力量、各政党和各社会团体、各企业事业组织都必须遵守宪法和法律。一切违反宪法和法律的行为,必须予以追究。
  任何组织或者个人都不得有超越宪法和法律的特权。
http://www.gov.cn/ziliao/flfg/2005-06/14/content_6310_3.htm

第三十五条 中华人民共和国公民有言论、出版、集会、结社、游行、示威的自由。
http://www.gov.cn/ziliao/flfg/2005-06/14/content_6310_4.htm

I do encourage people to familiarize with their own Constitution because the Chinese government certainly encourages it:
http://www.legalinfo.gov.cn/zt/xf/node_4375.htm

China's central media agency (Xinhua) has an article on this issue:
http://english.enorth.com.cn/system/2001/12/06/000209635.shtml

The article stated that the movement of Constitution awareness began in 1998. Even at 2007, it seems like not too long ago. I'm hopeful progress is being made, slowly but surely.

I'm not singling out Chinese people as the only people need to know their own laws (Constitution). Other countries can benefit from the same knowledge. It only makes a better society if the people know and demand their own rights.

I don't know whether you read Chinese main political bbs,if you do you can find a lot of people in China are dissatisfied with their government.

perhaps you are a son of rich businessman in Shanhai who is studying in Germany, you are the vested interest,so you view China differently from most of Chinese ordinary people .

But according to recent survey by a Chinese state owned famous maginze called "Outlook",it said that almost all of entrepreneurs who own middle and small size of companies hate Chinese communist officials because they have to bribe communist officials to suvive, usually they bribe them about more than 10 percent of their total sales.

Maybe you are a son of big businessman,so your father 's company can get safeguard from a few top communist officials, you father only bribe a few top communist officials,he can get much benifits from the corrupt Chinese communist regime system,so do your relatives.

This is a thread about China,so if you want to spread your words about U.S.A,you should post your threads in some furoms which Ameircans often go to ,not in this second language furom which most of people here are not Americans~do you get it ?

Yinglish said "I do encourage people to familiarize with their own Constitution."

Yinglish did not say "I do encourage Chinese people to familiarize with their own Constitution."

I was responding to Yinglish's comment. You didn't have to read my comment. You certainly didn't have to respond in an offensive and obtuse manner.

I get that you seem to enjoy being argumentative without foundation. And I note that baseless arguments and offensive remarks are hardly constructive to building a reputation for intelligent commentary.

You might want to consider that conversation regarding any subject with a native English speaker is likely to be beneficial to an English learner.

Here's your bonus English cliche phrase of the day: "Get off your high horse."
Get off your high horse - desist from behaving arrogantly - metaphor based on the ceremonial tradition from 1700's England and earlier, for very important people - military leaders, nobility etc - to lead parades on horseback, as a sign of their superiority and to increase their prominence.

What Yinglish said "I do encourage people to familiarize with their own Constitution." obviously refered to Chinese people in this thread, you are so obtuse and unwise that you found every chance to attack Bush adminstration or US government, there are a lot of other forums in which many Americans debate their concerned issues, you are a native English people, why are you willing to stay here -the second language board, maybe most of Ameircans don't buy your views in their board,so that you can't help but stay here to try to mislead people who are studying English here, but you can't be success, because there are a lot of wise people in this board who can debunk your funny somehow stupid chop logic.

I guess that many people here don't need you this kind of stupid native English speaker to practise their English, they can surf around more famous furoms to practise their English with decent and wise native English speakers, maybe you are too obtuse to know that,,,

ltp, I tried to tell you that the most important is not what papers say or what thinkings or dreams you have about another culture. The important thing is that a citizen is happy with the own country. And I'm happy.

On the other hand, you don't discuss with me, you try to find many flaws of the Chinese government, and critisize them, in order to make the Chinese people here in the forum angry.

For this is not enough, you blaim beancurdturtle with massive curse words like
Quote:

and you try to frighten him, perhaps to get him to your side.

I know someone who is called "LennyeTran" on esl-club. http://www.englishclub.com/esl-forums/index.php She is the same like you, also very destructive, and blaims other people, in order to get them angry, and to satisfy her own need of acception in this way. A society gets lost because of people like her. If destructive people like her become administrative organs of a society, then this society is ruled by destruction, like eslclub. That's why I left. Please don't spoil the dave's-society here.

Please say sorry to beancurd and the people you blaimed, and try to act friendly. The groundwork of every discussion is friendliness, and not aggression.

This thread is about how the people in China downplay the Chinese state media, how could you call this thread attack to Chinese people?I think Chinese people are intelligent and hardworking,I respect them .Remember nation doesn't equal government, govenment doesn't equal communist party.

you are happy with Chinese government doesn't mean other Chinese are happy with their government, you Can't delegate other Chinese.

As concern about turtle,he impolitely offended me in the first place ,so I don't have any words to him.

Most people enjoy reading Beancurdturtle's opinions on various issues. They are well-thought out, respectful, and often have an interesting and different point of view. It's unfortunate that you seem to have a negative attitude.

By the way, forum postings often do not stay exactly on topic. You can post whatever you want in the first posting, but it is up to the other forum posters to continue in the same discussion or bring up other points as they respond. There is no guarantee that the topic will remain the same.

I don't see where I was offensive in my comments, and I had no intent to do so.

If you would be so kind as to point out where I offended you, I would be pleased to offer an apology.
