Sorry if this has been done to death, but the search function was turning up blank pages for me (maybe I'm doing something wrong). I was wondering what people do to send money home from Mexico to the US. I was on XE hoping to do an ETF, but I've just seen that the sign up process includes getting some documents scanned and other things that I can't do so easily right now. Would anyone like to share their method? |

I read the threads, but I don't think they're what I'm looking for. Thank you for the links, though. For anyone still interested in this topic, I would check out XE.com, which is what I'm doing right now. Can't tell you how it works yet, but maybe I'll do a write up when I get this situation solved. |

I did exactly that just recently just before the big jump in the exchange rate. I went to a change window and swapped my pesos for US green. I put it inside a folded manila sheet so that the postal workers would not see it when placed up to the light, and inserted both in an envelope along with my bank deposit slip from my Atlanta credit union and shipped it off. Worked fine. They made the deposit.
As I am also selling items via auction, mail and online, whenever I get a check I send it off with my deposit slip to my American savings account.
Simple but lengthy. |

hey chino.... best way is to make a border run if you can.
if you know and trust someone who is headed to el paso or one of the other texan border cities and you have a BofA account, this makes things really easy because you don't have to pay a wire transfer fee (around 100 bucks).
but if you really must send money home (it will hurt right now with the peso selling for .07355) then you can just walk into any banamex (or other bank i'm sure, but my experience is with banamex) with the appropriate info.
The bank will want:
Bank Account number
Account holder's address, phone number, name
SWIFT code
Routing number (maybe)
and a whole other slew of names and numbers in all likelihood.
it will cost you maybe... 100 dollars to make the transfer and another 10 to receive it in the US.
if you hop on skype and call your bank's 800 number they can give you all that info. you'll need a skype balance, but won't actually have to spend any of it. |

Bank to bank transfer with all the data Mikeysaid provided is probably the simplest way to do things, but it isn't 100 dollars...only 25 bucks at any bank of heft in Mexico, such as Banamex, Bancomer, HSBC, etc., then a small charge on the receiving end.
Same thing works the other way for a transfer from abroad. |

If you have an American bank account, then anytime someone in the US buys something from you, why not have them deposit the money they owe you into your account? All they'll need is your account number. That's what I do when I do translating work for people in the States. The money they owe me is deposited in my Bank of America account, and I can withdraw it here, using my BOA debit card, at any Scotia Bank or Serfin Santander branch office, without having to pay any service fees. |

I sit corrected. But on my honor, it cost me like 900 pesos the last time I did it, maybe they charged me a fee for the exchange from pesos to dollars? Or maybe someone had a nice dinner on me. |

What bank were you dealing with? I've been dealing with HSBC and Bancomer lately. I was quoted 25 dollars for a transfer not two days ago. |

I ended up going home for the holidays, so I just got travelers checks for USD at my bank and did it the easy way (provided you are going home.) XE.com looked good, but you have to fax a bunch of official documentation and even have a phone interview for some kind of verification. There are some compliance issues with international money laundering laws and whatnot. |
