Hola Everyone!

I am new at posting here but have been reading about ESL/EFL Jobs in Mexico for a while and I am interested in attaining a decent job there. Would anyone reccomend sending my resume and cover letter to various universities in Mexico or perhaps post my resume here? I have great credentials- just graduated Summa *beep* Laude with two BA degrees. TESOL (K-12) and Spanish. I have experience living in Spanish speaking countries as well. Any advice for me? trust your intuition: email resumes and cover letters.

Just roll up in any biggish city in Mexico and take your resume (in Spanish) to the nearest universities (don't bother with language schools) around June/July if not before and you should easily get a job.

All those fancy bits of paper will probably get you a good rate in a private uni - if you can stand the kids.

Well, there you have it. I'm not sure there's a third way to do it! The problem is, it's hard to predict what will work. The university where I work, two days a week, regularly gets applications, many of them in person, from well qualified people, including those with higher qualifications than you spoke of. From time to time, people get picked from this herd, and that's more a matter of the luck of timing than anything else, I suspect.

Being around, and developing a relationship with the decision makers in a city where you'd like to live can't hurt, should an opening occur. I had paid several visits to the dept head in an effort to do just that, and had put in hours on a pet project of hers, without compensation, to move things along; yet, I still feel she offered me the work on an impulse when I just happened to drop by on yet another visit, as I was trying to keep things moving ahead.

Thanks for the information you three have provided. I guess my best bet is to narrow down where I want to work, and then look for schools there. I was hoping to work with kids perhaps in a private colegio. Hopefully I'll have some luck. Maybe I'll just buy a ticket to DF and then travel around the country until I find a nice place to call home (providing I snag a job that is) ;o)

With that said, if anyone knows of a good colegio in the country that is hiring, please let me know!

Mexico's a big country, and there will likely be job opportunities for you in any major city.

You can learn a lot about each city from the internet: combining this with what you know appeals to you should allow you to narrow down the choices sufficiently.

When we decided to come to Mexico, we investigated lots of cities on the web, then visited the three we thought had the most potential. As it happened, we chose a fourth, so much for planning, huh?
