Anybody on the board living in Anyang?? I should be there in about a month.
How do you like it? What is there to do? Wikipedia says it's about 20-30 minutes away from Seoul on public transit. Is this accurate? How often do you go to Seoul? Any random things about Anyang I should know about?
Where to get good cheap Korean food??
Random question: how far away is the Walker Hill casino? |

Depends where in Seoul you go. The whole of Seoul is certainly not 10 minutes apart from one extreme to the other. |

From Pyeongchon/Beomgae it's about 20 minutes to Sadang, perhaps a bit less. Kangnam is about 35 minutes, including transfer, while Itaewon is about 45, and Hongdae (Sangsu) about 50. Myeongdong is a bit under an hour. Generally speaking, I find Line 4 to be quite convenient, and when it's warmer out I'll go into Seoul three days a week or more.
Line 1 is a bit less convenient to central Seoul, but still gets you into the Seoul city limits within about twenty minutes (Times Square at Yeongdeongpo is a decent place to hang out, and Yeouido has a nice park) just a bit beyond that.
Cheap Korean food is abundant, but it's not always good. Anyang isn't exactly a great culinary destination, it's got the same mediocre Korean restaurants you find anywhere else in Gyeonggi. |

do you live in anyang nathan? we seem to really be hitting it off. maybe we could meet up and hang out sometime????
But seriously, thanks for two of those links. They genuinely were helpful (not the one from 03 or the one about yoga or the band practice one or the dentist one etc..). And I'm sorry that my search function gave me a white screen and that you're a bitter bitter person.
Good to hear that info guys, I'll have to familiarize myself with the different Lines to get into Seoul.
Have any of you guys gone to the Walker Hill casino from anyang? How long did it take? |

Anyang is great.
Get to Baegun Lake when it warms up if you get a chance.
Anyang is a big place so it mostly depends where you wind up. Could really be in Uiwang, Pyeongchon, Gunpo, etc.
The subway times quoted sound about right. And there's a lot to do in Anyang/Beomgye on a Saturday night instead of going into Seoul. |

I know some poker regulars that live in Anyang, I think they said it takes them 'bout an hour to get to the Walker Hill Casino from Beomgye station. |

I had to look it up (never been there), but it's about an hour, give or take, straight up Line 4. Where's your school? |

you're in luck.
Anyang would easily be my #1 preference re where to live in Gyonggi.
Seoul isn't (that) far away.. 1 line takes you up to Hongdae, 4 line to Itaewon and Gangnam. around 30 mins.
taxi ride back from Seoul will be around 25K won.
A sizable foreigner community if you want that, and things to do, places to go on the weekend if you don't want to go to Seoul.
Good people watching in that big open area around Byomge, especially weekend evenings/nights. |

That said, if you're in Pyeongchon, you don't want to be going over to Line 1 to get to Hongdae, as it's way easier to take Line 4 up to Samgakji, transfer to Line 6 and get off at Sangsu, which is just as close to the action in Hongdae as Hongik Station is. It ends up being about the same amount of time on the subway, and when you account for the amount of time transferring takes, Samgakji is probably even faster. The bus ride to Anyang Station is definitely not worth it if you're trying to get to Hongdae.
OP: That said, if you're working in Pyeongchon, there's a really good chance you'll be living in Uiwang/Naesondong, which some people love and some people hate. What school are you working for?
Also, to put distance in context, it's a very normal thing for lots of Anyang people to head to Itaewon on Tuesdays for the food deals there. Many people do it every week. It's very doable. |

Hi, I live in Pyeongchon a couple of minutes walk from the station.
Have you heard if that is where you'll be living?
It is quite quiet near the station despite having plenty of eateries and bars, but Beomgye is one stop or easy walking distance away and is very lively with quite a large foreign contingent. (Look out for numerous Western bars).
Anyang itself is a few stops from Pyeongchon but requires a line change, so I get a taxi there, which is cheap. The centre of Anyang is very lively and has very good nightlife on a Saturday.
Pyeongchon is on line 4, so is well connected. |

Or you can take bus 5-1 from right in front of Pyeongchon Station, straight to Anyang Station, and take another five minutes getting there. |

I am aware of this, but Anyang is quite a big place.
By "Anyang itself", I meant central Anyang.
