Can anyone recommend a good recruiter for finding work with SMOE or GEPIK?
I applied for work in Korea 3 years ago and at that time I had read that Rowan at Planet ESL was a good recruiter, so I went with him. He got me an interview for SMOE, but I had no experience at the time, and no ESL certificate, so I didn't get a job.
I now have a CELTA, and 3 years experience teaching in Thailand, but I have tried sending emails to Planet ESL to tell them I am again interested in teaching in Korea, but I haven't heard anything from them.
So does anyone know of a good recruiting agency?
Thanks.

I am sure the question comes up all of the time, but I haven't been following the forum for a while, so I haven't read those threads. :p
I am not looking for the special recruiter who can get me the prefect job, I just want one who is straightforward and will follow up if I have any questions. I went with Rowan at ESL Planet 3 years ago because he had the reputation of being honest.
I am not looking for trolling through several threads, nor do I want to be shown up as a newbie who didn't search first.
I just want an a simple answer to my question, thanks.

Korea is full of teachers and recruiters don't need you anymore. Try China. |

Then give some more information....
What we now about you from your previous post is
1) You have experience. I am guessing 1 year Korea and 2 years in Thailand. The experience does not help much. The Korea 1 year gives a little. Most school will not care about the 2 yeas Thailand experience.
2) You are applying NOW. So you are either too late or too early for public school. Public school intakes are in September and February/March So most recruiters are not going to be working actively
till about January.
3) You have a CELTA. Nice, but it's value in Korea is lowish. Tell many ESL Korean teachers and even some recruiters you have a CELTA. They will go "a what"? Maybe it might qualify for the public school jobs, which most will want at least a TEFL certificate.
Now some questions you need to answer.
Where are you? I am going to assume you are in Thailand. If you are, then some recruiters will shuffle you down the list. Many recruiters will prefer to deal with people in Korea. The applying from Thailand might also off put some recruiters.
Are you ready? Got a criminal record check? Have verified degree? If you are not ready, recruiters will once again bottom pile you.
When are you applying for? As I said above the public school intake is a few months away. Yes sometimes you can a public school job in the middle but it will likely be given to those in country. Plus those are a handful.
Have you kept up on the news or read any of the board here. Searched at the least with SMOE or GEPIK. Many of the public school programs are cutting back on teachers. So placements are much slimmer now.
What else have you done to look for a job, besides apply with ONE recruiter. All you did is send him a couple emails. Did you try picking up the phone? What was his response? Have you found other recruiters that work with GEPIK/SMOE. Which ones?
Check out the waygook forum too for some possible recruiters to use.

God. With some basic searching and skimming some names came up. With the magic of google.

Use recruiters, don't let them use you. They're all interested in lining their pockets and nothing more, don't ever trust them. They'll do anything to get you to sign on the line which is dotted. |

Give Sarah at Orenji Recruiting ([email protected]) a try. Friendly, but honest. They mostly work with schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Friend of mine got a hagwon job really quick. |

I'm sure he's rubbed you the wrong way, but Skippy's posts on this thread are excellent. You're really serious about a job in Korea...? Follow his/her links - there's a huge amount of information. |

Hi I'm Jiyeon at PlanetESL. I think you are confused with ESL Planet with my company. Yes I have heard Rowan was the founder of ESL Planet but ESL Planet no longer exists as far as I know and it was years ago they stopped. |

That post was also written years ago and I'm sure that the OP either found a job or gave up by now. |

It might be a good agency for middle school students who want to begin their job search early so they don't have all the last minute hustle and bustle. |
